These indicators will look at the provision of kaupapa Maori tertiary education, with a particular focus on wānanga and Māori PTEs.

1.  Key indicators

1.1  Provision through wānanga

After a period of rapid growth, the total number of students at wānanga has peaked in 2004 and decreased in 2005. The decrease was mostly in students in level 1 to 4 certificates.

However, the number of Māori students at wānanga declined from 2003, with the decline mostly being at certificate level.

From 2002 to 2005, the feilds of study with the greatest growth in wānanga students have been society and culture, management and commerce and education.

1.2  Provision through Māori PTEs

The number of Māori students at Māori PTEs has remained steady, in spite of a growth in Māori students in other types of PTEs.
