These indicators look at the transition from school to tertiary study.

1.  Key indicators

From 2004 to 2005, the proportion of school leavers leaving school with no qualifications has levelled out, while the proportion leaving with less than NCEA level 2 or equivalent increased slightly.


Distribution of school leavers by highest leaving qualification 1998–2005

The proportion of school leavers undertaking degree-level study in the year after leaving school declined from 2003 to 2005, as has the proportion undertaking certificate level 1 to 3 study.

This report looks at the mobility of tertiary students in terms of the distances they travel to undertake their tertiary studies. The report provides new information on how far students travel and the reasons behind students’ decisions to travel for tertiary study. The report focuses on students who moved directly from school to tertiary study.

This report looks at how pathways through tertiary education followed over the course of seven years differ depending on what students were doing before starting study.
