Key indicatorsThe number of postgraduate qualifications completed is growing steadily at all levels. ![]() Postgraduate qualifictions completed by formal domestic students 1997–2005 The fields of study with the largest increases in postgraduate qualification completions have been health, management and commerce, and society and culture. ![]() Change from 2002 to 2004 in postgraduate qualifications completed by domestic students by field of study and qualification level The government’s Growth and Innnovation Framework (GIF) identifies three sectors that have high growth potential and can enable growth in other sectors of the economy, namely information technology, biotechnology and the creative industries. Postgraduate enrolments (in EFTS terms) in biotechnology-related courses has been steady. Enrolments in creative industries have been steadily increasing, while enrolments in information technology have declined from 2001. ![]() EFTS consumed by formal domestic students in postgraduate courses in GIF priority areas 2001–2005 As proportion of all postgraduate EFTS, participation over these three areas has declined from 2001 to 2004, but has increased slightly in 2005 ![]() EFTS consumed by formal domestic students in postgraduate courses in GIF priority areas as a proportion of domestic postgraduate EFTS 2001–2005 The growth in trade and technical qualification completions varies by discipline. From 2000 to 2005, there has been overall growth in all areas except for information technology. The area with most marked growth since 2002 has been food, hospitality and personal services.
