Monitoring the Tertiary Education Strategy - ENewsletter
This eNewsletter bringing you highlights and updates on the monitoring and evaluation of the Tertiary Education Strategy.

1.  New site for monitoring the Tertiary Education Strategy

We think you will find the new site for monitoring the Tertiary Education Strategy (TES) easier to use and more informative.

We now have a self-contained site for the project where you are able to:

  • read pages and leave comments without needing to use a password
  • use the sidebars to find main pages across the site (upper portion) and within groups (lower portion)
  • check latest news and events
  • access monitoring information as it is released
  • contribute to your ideas and comments.

The main URL for the site is: http://tertiary.customer.onesquared.net/~TESMon

Please add it to your favourites and pass it onto your colleagues. We are happy for you to publish the URL in your own newsletters etc.

Click on Home Page at the top of the side bar to start exploring.

2.  What is the monitoring framework?

The monitoring framework is a way of taking the broad directions set out in the Tertiary Education Strategy and looking at them in terms of what changes are needed to achieve the TES and what would be different when it is achieved.

The framework provides a way of thinking about what we need to monitor. It is a way of bringing together the monitoring information into an overall set of messages.

For each of the six strategies in the TES, we have developed four to five:

  • Key shifts: which identify the main areas for change across the system

  • Success criteria: which identify what would be different about the system when the strategy has been achieved.

We will be using the framework on this site as a way of organising the monitoring information and discussion around indicators. Have a look at Strategy2 as an example. Each of the statements has its own page, where we will add monitoring information and commentary. Use the trail links at the bottom of the strategy page to explore the framework for the other five strategies.

3.  Question of the Month

Each month we will feature a question for discussion. We encourage you to contribute your answer and have a look at what others have contributed.

In this month’s question we are giving you a chance to introduce yourself and talk about your interests in tertiary education.

What are your interests in the tertiary education system?

4.  See what’s new and add your views

Stakeholder Research
An important aspect of the monitoring project is to understand the views of key stakeholders on the progress of the tertiary education system towards the TES.

An initial outline of the stakeholder research project has been developed. Click on Stakeholder Research to view and add your comments.

Maori Advisory Process
As part of this project we have been running a Māori Advisory Process involving people from iwi, providers and Māori student and staff groups.

Earlier this year, we held two workshops — on stakeholder research and evaluation. The notes of the workshops are available from the Maori Advisory Process page.

We will be holding a further round of hui later this year. Contact DavidEarle for more information.

Evaluation Questions
We are starting to think about what the main questions would be to evaluate the TES overall.
