Monitoring the Tertiary Education Strategy - ENewsletter
This eNewsletter bringing you highlights and updates on the monitoring and evaluation of the Tertiary Education Strategy.

1.  Evaluating the TES

So far we have been focusing on monitoring the TES — that is looking at progress and change in key areas addressed by the strategies.

The next step is to evaluate the current TES — that is asking the bigger questions about how well it has worked. We have come up with four main questions for evaluating the current TES:

  • Is it a useful and useable document?
  • Is it achieving its purpose?
  • Is it making a difference?
  • Is it adding value to the tertiary education sector?

This is the last issue of the eNewsletter before the election. We will send out the next issue after the new government is formed.

In addressing these questions we are considering four areas of information:

  • The big picture — change across the sector
  • The sector response — how TEOs have responded to the TES
  • Local stories — what has been happening for learners, TEOs and stakeholders at the local level
  • Doing it better next time — what can we learn from the experience with the current TES?

2.  Looking for information on stakeholder engagement

We are still interested in receiving any information you may have on stakeholder engagement with the tertiary education sector.

The research team from the Waikato Institute of Technology are getting underway with the research and will be contacting key stakeholder groups, including business, industry, regional/local government, Māori, iwi and Pasifika communities.

If you have information that would be useful for this research, please let us know. Information could include surveys, consultation documents and as well as your own experience.

The Schooling Strategy 2005-2010
The government has developed a Schooling Strategy to improve social and academic outcomes for all students, by focusing attention on those factors that make the biggest difference for student learning. It has been developed with input from the schooling sector and community interests.

The Strategy will guide, and provide focus for, policy and activities across the schooling sector from 2005 to 2010.

The Strategy goal is: All students achieving their potential.

This will mean significantly improving opportunities and outcomes for students currently underachieving, while continuing to improve outcomes for high and average achievers, across all dimensions of knowledge, skills, attitudes, values, and identity.
