Draft terms of reference for the National Database of Māori Scholars Project

What are we doing?
- Managing the relationships and establishing the process and structure to enable sharing of Māori Scholars’ data between the following identified stakeholders:
Instigating group
Beneficiaries
- Researchers and scholars
- International researchers and scholars
- PhD students
- Iwi
- Tertiary Education Institutions
Interest groups
- Ministry of Education;
- Tertiary Education Commission;
Why are we doing it?
- To support the creation, maintenance, and development of a database of Māori scholars and their research.
- To enable the use of such a database by all the identified stakeholders.
- To connect to wider aspirations of Ngā Pae and the government.
Who is doing it?
- The Steering group - overseeing the project.
- The Working group (to be convened) to get sector contribution and support.
- The Governance group (to be established) – to replace the steering group.
- The Custodian – Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga charged with developing and maintaining the database.
How will we know when we have done it?
- We will have an operational database.
- Agreements around data use will be in place with all universities, UniTec and wānanga.
- The database will be used by, and of value to, the MAI Programme, TEIs, MoE, TEC, students, iwi and researchers as well as international researchers and scholars.
- Project review evaluation conducted (mid 2007).
- Privacy, stewardship and access issues satisfactorily resolved.
