WelcomeThis update was sent to the Māori Scholars Database Project distribution list on the 21 September 2006. This is an update on how the Māori Scholars Database Project has been progressing. University involvementOn 13 July, Les Williams and David Earle met with Te Kahui Amokura (the Standing Committee on Māori that advises New Zealand Vice-Chancellors’ Committee) to discuss the database project. We will continue to report to them as the project develops. Student involvementVeronica Tawhai, the kaitūhono for Te Mana Akonga (the National Māori Tertiary Students’ Association) joined us as a member of the steering group in August. Discussing experiences of running database with Māori and iwiOn 31 August, we met representatives from Tūhono, the Crown Forest Rental Trust, the Foundation for Research, Science and Technology, and Statistics New Zealand to discuss experiences of running databases with Māori and iwi. There was a willingness to share ideas and knowledge and a number of offers of help.
