Access control over distributed content collections:

• some will be public (open access)
• some will be highly protected
• many require modest access controls — the MAMS domain

MAMS delivers a packaged piece of open source distributed access control software called Shibbloeth

Key issues for New Zealand’s repository framework are:

• ensure directory services are SAML−2 compliant
• identity management is not a repository function
• focus first on getting repositories in place and populated

Consider establishing a joint NZ/Australia test federation

Political and cultural issues are the hardest ones
