Motivation

 

The following examples illustrate some of the sector challenges an Architectural Framework can help overcome:

• exchanging Word Processing Documents under the Laptops for Principals programme
• providing Identity Services for connecting to sector information sources
• supporting older Web Browsers with new on-line services and features

The following diagram shows learners at the centre of a network of connected information resources and services.

A key goal of the first phase of the Architectural Framework project is to identify and set priorities for ICT-related sector problems that the framework needs to address. What does the sector need to do to achieve nation-wide interoperability?

This is an opportunity to lay the foundations for joined-up, sector-wide services, based on a common interoperability framework. It also represents a challenge to those parts of the sector that in the past have gone their own way.
