The Information Commons are places people go to find information, to investigate their learning options and to support their learning pathways. This includes information from:

The ESAF will provide a directory of what information is held and a map to help people find it. It will make it easy for organisations to expose their holdings to the sector and place controls around its access. It will enable federated searching across related content collections. This includes:

  • private spaces — only authenticated visitors have access and they only see information they are allowed to see
  • open sector spaces — anyone can enter the sector, search for and find information and communities of interest
  • adjacent spaces — links to complementary information and services that support participation in education

The ESAF excludes public spaces — areas covered by wider government portals and web search services.
