The Architectural Framework must foster greater sharing of knowledge and understanding about ICT across the sector, to support improved learning, teaching and administration. It must promote informed choice. It will remove barriers and build bridges, thereby reducing sector costs. It will achieve these goals by promoting solutions with the following characteristics.
- Interoperability
- Systems can readily exchange information, within and between organisations, and with learners.
- Accessibility
- Services let organisations and learners maintain choice of hardware and software, without compromising access.
- Diversity
- Open standards provide vendor independence and enable solutions from different vendors to inter-connect.
- Security
- Access to all sector information and services is secure and protects individuals’ privacy.
- Reusability
- Code mobility allows infrastructure, services, applications and information sharing across the sector.
- Efficiency
- Sustainable ICT services and responsive processes operate at least long term cost to the sector.
- Flexibility
- Solutions can adapt to new business requirements and technology opportunities.
- Integrity
- Correct, accurate and complete data sources fit their business purpose.
- Immediacy
- Services enable measurable improvements in learning outcomes sooner rather than later.
As a result, sector organisations will make better, more informed ICT investment decisions. By providing shared, open-standards–based infrastructure, ESAF enables sector agencies to focus on improving learning outcomes.
