The Business Impacts of ESAF will contribute to the ongoing realignment of the sector from an institution-centred to a learner-centred model. Realising the NetworkedLearners? vision implies that all parts of the education sector need to become more networked — education providers, suppliers to the sector (such as holders of culture and heritage materials), and the central education agencies. The aim is a seamless, borderless educational experience. We will no longer think about “eLearning” — ICT will be completely integrated into the learning process and taken for granted. This means connecting people to people, information and knowledge.
- Connected Learners
- I can get access to everything I need to make informed learning decisions and fulfil my learning goals. I have higher aspirations and more opportunities. I get a better quality education.
- Connected Schools
- I get quality information about learner outcomes and can make meaningful comparisons of performance with similar schools. I make decisions based on more empirical evidence.
- Connected Communities
- Emerging possibilities around collaborative tools let me work more closely with my peers to develop communities of professional practice. These help me improve the quality of my work.
- Connected Government
- My business processes become more transparent and aligned across borders. I no longer have to hold every item of information myself, because when I need to, I can find it, get it, and use it.
- Connected Societies
- The role of non-traditional, less formal, learning centres expands, such as public libraries. Power shifts from providers to learners. A greater sense of social identity develops. There is more diversity of curriculum choice.
- Connected Policies
- Underpinning everything is the need to ensure that investments in education are wise and learners are achieving the desired outcomes. It means knowing what information is valuable and having common standards for measuring achievement.
- Connected Lives
- Learning for me becomes a life-long journey. I am literate, numerate, and have learnt how to learn. I am connected to my culture and heritage. I have opportunities to succeed to the best of my abilities.
These are big impacts and ESAF alone won’t make them happen. ESAF is one of the enablers that supports the shift to empowered and effective lifetime learning experiences, based on strong learning foundations.
