Impediments to use
- You can lead many people to a wiki, or other collaborative forum, but they won’t.
- You could be surprised though as to how many people use it for reference.
- Structure, use of Groups may be confusing, better to have fewer groups and separate pmwikis, and use Inter Map if there are links between them.
- This support having “announcement” (ie read only) wikis and contributory wikis.
- at the same time use separate URLs to distinguish them and see PmWiki:ChangePmWikiURL.
- the fact that this site is passsword protected may be an impediment
- the fact that few people at all know about this wiki is an impediment (eg it is not referenced on the Ministry bulletin board)
Publishing
Publishing with pdf is great, the CSS for print could do with some fine tuning.
Perhaps we need word2you rather than taking the publishing away from this site.
Instability of the web server is a red herring, I’d venture to suggest that a properly run server, with apache, php, and pmwiki is more stable than MS word and a local hard disk.
- do macrons have character entities? Yes, so is the issue not having an IME?
